2011 was also a year of giving back to the community. I am extremely proud of our team's efforts in donating over half a ton of food to the local food bank and raising over $4000 to help local residents with MS.

Plant Services Featured Article: "Behind the Glass"

eMaint is proud to share that Boyd Helm, Maintenance Manager at Cardinal Glass and eMaint X3 CMMS user, has been featured in the December issue of Plant Services for his success with eMaint's CMMS system.

Boyd recently hosted eMaint's User Group Summit in Buford, Georgia and shared his story with other X3 users while providing a tour of Cardinal's world-class manufacturing facility. 

eMaint and Boyd have developed a strong partnership that has helped others using a CMMS understand the true benefits and possibilities of a maintenance management system.

The article "Behind The Glass" discusses how with the help of a CMMS and stronger team communication, Boyd was able to shrink downtime to less than 1%, reduce labor hours by 43%, decrease overtime by 60%, and increase daily production by 40%. This resulted in a strong operating profit of 45%, after several unprofitable years.

Outages - Why Teamwork is Key To Success

Concerned about preparing for an upcoming outage?  The factor that will most likely lead to a schedule overrun is the transition period along the critical path. During these hand offs communication is key. Each individual has a different perspective and making sure the team works together is vital to ensuring minimal time is lost during a shutdown and that everyone adheres to the schedule. Every minute of downtime during an outage is money lost. To ensure success every department should have these roles defined before going into an outage:

Operations & Maintenance Coordinator - Maintains outage leadership during transition periods.

Outage Plan Manager -  Sole responsibility is to manage the plan.

Reliability Supervisors - Functional coverage of reliability tasks.

Operations Supervisors - Geographic coverage of all tasks.

Task Leaders - Ensures the task is done professionally and on-time.

By defining key roles and responsibilities, maintenance departments will experience key benefits such as ensuring the plan is well-done and well-executed, improving timeliness of communication, engaging more people effectively, and keeping momentum high throughout the outage.

Maintenance Management Expo In Brazil

 

On Monday, September 19th, 2011 eMaint Enterprises will be represented at the 26th Brazilian Congress of Maintenance Expo by Sergio Plaut, eMaint Market Development Manager. The Expo will take place from September 19th -23rd and focus on maintenance and sustainability, with participants representing the top segments of the Brazilian economy.

 

Sergio Plaut, fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and English, has over 30 years experience working for multinational corporations. Plaut will be attending the conference in Curitiba, PR within the campus of Positivo University. Sergio will be there to connect with current eMaint clients such as Hospital das Clinicas as well as meeting potential clients. eMaint has been serving customers in Brazil since 2006.

How To Handle The Before, During and After of Any Maintenance Outage

This month Randy Pound, President and CEO of Solved Inc., hosted eMaint's monthly Best Practices Webinar on Planning, Scheduling and Executing Outages.

Outages or shutdowns are the most critical aspect of maintenance reliability. Through careful planning and standardization, any organization can excel at managing outages. Randy Pound  runs through some key steps to consider before, during and after an outage. 

First, the reliability and production team must work together not only during an outage but also through daily activities. Performing as one team at all times will lead any company to success. 

Each organization should consider the following:

Before an outage:

    - Make sure each individual has the applied skills to handle their aspect of the outage

    - Make sure that the available parts are fit for the service

    -Have each technician ready to jump in when equipment is shut down in order to reduce loss of profitability

During an outage:

    - Use available technicians that are skilled to handle each specific outage

    - Standardize work to increase efficiency with each shutdown 

    -Make sure to take down accurate measurements

After an outage:

    - Analyze measurements taken during outage

    -Write down best practices that you experienced during an outage

    -Work through team building activities
